We have a min pin who is now almost 13 wks old. We got her at 8 wks. Overall, she is fun and we love her. She has a couple things that we don't know how to deal with that are driving us crazy. First, she is so sassy that she will talk back whenever she does not get her way. We are trying to teach her NOT to chew her blankie, NOT to jump and whine when she wants attention. Basically, anytime we tell her no or take the item away, she growls and barks at us (It is playful, butt up in the air). She will deliberately do the things that she has been told not to to get attention. When she is like this, she runs away from us and she is impossible to catch. She can get under all the furniture, which we do not want.

The next thing is that she will not pee and poop on the same trip outside. It is very cold here, so she wants to get inside ASAP. We got out so often, that I don't think she is really learning to hold it. She still gets up every 2-3 hours throughout the night (this is not something we want to continue long term...I am seriously sleep deprived!) and will go each and every time. If we ignore her, she will just go in the crate. Last night, she actually just laid in my lap on the couch and peed right on me!!!

She is also seriously fixated on food. When the clicker and treats come out, her little mouth will actually quiver and you can hear her teeth chattering. She goes out of her mind whenever the food bowl comes out too. We try to keep it low key, but she scarfs it up in LESS THAN ONE MINUTE! We still feed her 3 times a day and try to do at least 2-3 clicker sessions per day (granted, her attention span only allows for about 3-5 minutes at a time). She gets plenty to eat. The vet even wants us to cut back a little, since she's plenty plump for her size. Also, she will generally do anything you ask, when she knows the clicker is there (and therefore the treats). If not, forget it!

I feel like we did so much research, signed up for the puppy classes, and are doing everything we are supposed to, but it is just not going well. How do we handle the discipline, without making her lose her trust in us? Do we use social confinement/time out? Do we take away the blankie and bed for good? Do we ignore it completely? We are afraid that the sassing back will spiral out of control as she gets older if we don't get a handle on it.

Does anyone else have the food fixation? Any tips on how to rachet that down?
